The heat wasn’t about to keep PAL (Police Athletic League) supporters from helping to raise money for the kids. Despite the 106 degree heat index on Saturday, supporters of PAL sported their uniforms and batted a softball and the heat in a tournament aimed at raising funds for the The Auburn-Barrow County PAL Program.

Dooley Barnes along with her daughter, Sho Rowell, attended the event.

"[We] love the kids and we are trying to raise teen awareness in Winder," said Rowell, who was the team captain for Team ShoTime. "I am a teacher in Barrow County ... at Winder Barrow Middle School and I’m all for it (PAL)."

"We are doing this as charity for the kids," said Barnes. "And kids need all the support they can get ... so please still give your support if you can," she said. "And I love myself some kids."

Officer Kara Rose organized the fundraiser. As of publication time for the Barrow County News statistics from the event, including the amount of money raised, had not yet been released.

The PAL program is based on the conviction that today’s youth - if they are reached early enough – can develop strong positive attitudes towards authority.
